my case study prep
We've started researching cases, any case study and some from our peers from previous years aswell. we're doing this research so we can make our own.
cases I've started researching : I researched a Netflix case study and a Disney and marvel case study. these were one of my top choices because they seemed interesting.
update 1/15/26: I haven't chose my case study yet but I did do the vocabulary words that I'll need to use in or understand in order to do my case study
vocab:
vertical integration- when a company owns different stages of making or delivering a product
ex- Disney owning Pixar they make movies and Disney+ streams them
horizontal integration- when a company buys other companies that do the same thing
ex- Facebook buying Instagram they're both social media apps
convergence- when different types of media blend together
ex- using my phone to watch movies, play games, and listen to music all in one place
synergy- when companies work together to make something bigger and better
ex- a movie studio and fast food chain teaming up for like a happy meal toy
cross media- one story or brand spread across different media platforms
ex- a superhero appearing in movies, comics, games, and merch
globalization- how media spreads across the world so everyone sees the same stuff
ex- tik tok trends going viral and being done worldwide
representing the world- how media shows people, places, and events
ex- movies showing high school as lockers and drama 24/7 even if real life isn't like that
audiences in the digital age- how people today use media online, on phones, and on demand
ex- binge watching Netflix instead of waiting for weekly episodes
media audience effects- how media can influence what people think, feel, or do
ex- scary movies making you like check behind the shower curtain
genre- genres exist so audiences know what to expect and creators know what to make
ex- horror= scary, romance= love, etc.
representation (masculinity)- how media shows what being a man looks like
ex- movies usually show men as like tough, strong, no emotions even though real guys aren't like that
